This report strips away marketing noise to show market truth. It is designed to be interpreted by a professional financial planner aware of the intricacies of investment strategy, taxation, and performance reporting.
Critical Context Before You Enter
⚠️ Not a Direct Comparison
These figures illustrate raw investment returns. They are NOT a valid comparison of superannuation or investment accounts. Actual accounts have admin fees and costs which reduce returns. “MySuper” benchmarks are included for relative performance only, not as recommendations.
📉 Taxation Differences
Tax matters. Investment accounts are taxed at marginal rates; Super at ~15%; Pensions often at 0%. Comparing a pre-tax return to a post-tax return is misleading. Do not use these figures without understanding the tax environment.
🏷️ The “Label” Trap
Terms like “Balanced” or “Growth” are unregulated. Two “Balanced” funds can have vastly different risk profiles and asset allocations. We look at the underlying assets, not just the marketing label.
🏙️ Listed vs. Unlisted Valuations
Assets listed on a stock exchange change price daily (high volatility). Unlisted assets (like direct property) are valued periodically (low volatility). This report tracks both to highlight valuation disparities, not to recommend one structure over another.
⚓ Benchmark Logic
We use Vanguard Wholesale Index funds as a “Passive” benchmark because of their scope. This is not a recommendation for Vanguard. Note that Wholesale funds reflect investment costs only, not the administration fees typical of retail accounts.
🏛️ Special Fund Warnings (GESB)
Funds like GESB West State are Constitutionally Protected with unique tax treatments. Great care should be taken before making changes to these funds as benefits may be lost.
